Ok, i have 3 slots in my motherboard for memory. Right now i have 2 filled (512*2 pc 3200). It is possible to put a 1 gig stick into that open slot, or even a 512 stick? Or would i have to take out the 2 512's i have in now and replace them with 2 1 gig sticks?

To be honest I don't know - I have not come across a motherboard with an odd number of RAM slots in a while. With an even number, most boards will allow you to mix and match difference amounts of RAM as long as there are an even number of each stick. With the odd number I don't know - I would check the board manufacturer's web site and check there..

I have the Asus A7N8X-E Delux motherboard and it only has 3 slots as well. I too before only had two 512 sticks of PC-3200 ram. I bought a 1 gig stick of PC-3200 and put it in the 3rd slot to have 2 gigs of ram. Worked fine and I never get memory lag like I use to get on Oman and Daqing Oilfields even if my vid settings were maxed out or only on medium.
Give it a try, but make sure you put the two 512 stick in its own dual channel. You will see what I mean when you open up your case and see the 2 ram slots close to eachother and 1 kinda seperate. When and if you do get the 1 gig ram stick place it in the 3rd slot and make sure you put the two 512 ram sticks in the dual channel.

There is also something you need to be aware of. Every now and then when you are playing, for example, CoD, and you go to play BF2 for about 30 mins to an hour, then you go back to CoD. CoD is going to lag alot. Its due to your 1gig of ram slot not giving up its memory because its confused.
So far I have had 2 512's, and a 1gig for about 2 months, its only happened to me once and all you have to do is restart your computer.
Also, mine was switching from WoW to CoD and back to WoW. And WoW is a memory hog =/

So the extra RAM helped alot with the lag, Max? I have the x850 pro and it's lagging like crazy on medium settings even. I have 768mb of RAM.

FreeRAM XP Pro (http://www.yourwaresolutions.com/software.html#framxpro)
This nifty little program will restore your memory after running any program - I use it before & after playing BF2 and it works great.
It's free and non-intrusive so you might want to look into it.

i uploaded a program to the ftp called tuneup utilities 2006, try it out if you have memory problems.there's a part of the program that can load up automatically and give you max memory when needed.
it also primes your computer for gaming and internet surfing.
but nothing beats a couple of xtra sticks of ram!!

It is your memory. Bf2 min is 1 gig. recommend 1.5. with the 2 gig you should get no lag

Really... I have been running bf2 min vid settings, and the bf2cc together off of one stick of 512. The only problem I get is switching between the programs, it does seem to lag there. but I just bought 2 more 512 sticks to put in...
i have 1.5 gigs of RAM 2 512mb sticks and 2 256mb sticks =P

i was reading about the memory lag yosh has a while back. on some customers motherboard specs.
something about placement, the larger stick had to be first in line or the motherboard would always try to go to the end of the line and work it's way back.
i think the board was DFI. i might be wrong.
yosh are all the sticks exactly the same??

It also depends on how much memory your mobo supports up to. Mine can handle up to 3gigs. It will tell you in your mobo manual.

schweet. today i got a 1 gig stick and added to my system. everything works great and bf2 doesnt lag at all. its amazing lol.
Yeah you can definately mix sizes of RAM. You just lose out on no dual-channel. Like I have 4 slots and 4 512mb sticks of PC3200 ram, so they are dual channelled. =)
